BHUBANESWAR: The State Government would submit a comprehensive plan to the Centre by month-end to tackle Left wing extremism (LWE) in Orissa.
A decision to this effect was taken because of the delay by the Centre in releasing funds for countering Naxalite activities in the State.
Official sources said that there was seven months delay in receiving the Central funds during the year.
The State Government received Rs 35 crore during the financial year from the Centre.
Official sources said that half of this would be spent for ammunition, training and building up other infrastructure to tackle increasing Naxalite activities in Orissa.
The plan submitted by the State Government will be discussed with the Centre in January and February. Funds will be available in April to avoid delay in its utilisation.
One of the major tasks before the authorities is fortification of police stations in Naxalite-affected areas of the State.
Sources said that there are many police stations in the affected areas which function without adequate staff.
The Task Force (TF) on Naxalites which met here recently had declined the request of the affected states for deployment of more CRPF till the Gujarat elections are over.
Instead, it had asked the state governments to fill up vacancies in police.
The seizure of a large cache of ammunition and arrest of two hardcore Naxalites in Sambalpur district have made it clear that pressure on the ultras is growing in Orissa.
This is the third such incident of arrest or surrender in the State in recent times.
