DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES IN NAXAL-AFFECTED DISTRICTS

Special attention is being given on planning, implementation and monitoring of development schemes in naxalite affected areas. Under the Backward Districts Initiative, which covered 147 districts, an amount of Rs. 45 crore per district had been allocated on a non-lapsable basis. Reporters risk their life in naxalite regions

Journalists in naxal-hit areas are compelled to take up risks. Some escape successfully with startling reportages, but most, get trapped in the dragnet of naxalites. Usually, a reporter is heckled by local police who are in collusion with them.

‘Naxals will be dealt with iron hand’

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi called upon the political parties and the public to extend their cooperation for rooting out Naxalite menace from Tamilnadu. The government along with the police force has been taking all steps to prevent the spread of Naxalites in the State.
