Orissa2 Maoists held in Birmitrapur

Express New Service 27 Sep 2008 11:41:00 AM ISTROURKELA: Two Maoists along with their two aides were arrested and a huge quantity of live cartridges seized from them at Birmitrapur, police said Friday.

While checking vehicles last night in connection with a firing incident, the police swooped on a group of five youths travelling in a car bearing Chhattisgarh registration number. Two of them managed to flee. Later, one of the absconders was arrested in a combing operation. Police found a huge quantity of live cartridges from their bags. Sundargarh SP Narsingha Bhol said the Maoists had no criminal records in Orissa.

Those arrested included Ajit Ray, the gang leader and Bihar-based platoon commander who had been working for the People’s War Group for the past two years. He is from Maharashtra. Another Naxal, Raj Bahadur Singh of Bihar, is a close confidant of Ray and is also working as a platoon commander.
